Episode 104 - Two Years, and Drunker than Ever!
Thursday Jun 29, 2017
Thursday Jun 29, 2017
This week, we are thrilled to welcome back a good friend of the show in Kevin Sampson of Picture Lock, who long-time listeners might remember from our Suicide Squad review episode. He is joining us this week to help us review Transformers: The Last Knight, which will drop as its own minisode after this regular show hits.
Also this week, we're discussing our top five of the year so far, which are almost guaranteed to change, but Justin is so sure I'll love his #1 so far that he's willing to bet five grand! Will he pay up if I don't?? All this, and we take aim at the Rotten Tomatoes style of aggregating reviews and discuss whether or not it is good for films and for expectations. Thank you very much for listening!!

Episode 103 - On the Wings of Improvisation
Thursday Jun 22, 2017
Thursday Jun 22, 2017
With no movies under either of our belts this week, we're steamrolling into this episode to talk... everything!! We take the time to touch on some movie news, from the early positive reactions to War for the Planet of the Apes and Danny Elfman taking over for Junkie XL to score Justice League. We've got some beer to talk about as well, as Justin drinks the homebrews I sent him home with, starting with my summer ale that ended up tasting like toast. All in all a fun episode this week as we look forward to a PACKED July schedule with a Christopher Nolan MEGASODE, an Apes Retrospective & Roundtable, and tons of hopefully great movies going into Summer 2017!! Thanks for listening!! We'll see you at the movies!!

Episode 102 - We're Nickless! I Want My Mummy!
Thursday Jun 15, 2017
Thursday Jun 15, 2017
This week on the show, something that has never happened before... Nick is gone! That's right folks, with a plate totally over-full of projects and therapy and doctor's appointments, I opted out of recording this week's show and left it in the capable hands of Justin and the birthday boy L-L-L-LoySauce. They had the chance to check out The Mummy and give a review in the featured review segment. Justin gives a brief review of It Comes at Night, while LoySauce tells the tale of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. All this, and a dose of Epic Previews to round out the show as the guys tackle the new Black Panther trailer! Thank you for listening! We'll see you at the movies!!

Episode 101 - The Wonder Woman Roundtable!
Thursday Jun 08, 2017
Thursday Jun 08, 2017
Hello and welcome to episode 101 of the podcast! With this episode and going forward into the future you'll start to notice a few changes with the Epic Film Guys podcast, including our "naked" openings and segment transitions; we're looking for some indie artists to collaborate with us on new music for the podcast so that everything we use is 100% royalty- and copyright-free. If you know someone who might be interested in submitting a piece, have them contact us!
With the release of Wonder Woman, easily one of the most-anticipated movies of the summer (and the year!), we had to bring back the roundtable format that we first piloted back during our Rogue One: A Star Wars Story episode. This time, however, we're also piloting a new review format; we're dropping numeric grades for films shortly, and coming up with another recommendation/scoring system. Reviews are also changing structurally, wherein we'll talk about what we loved and didn't love first as statements of opinion, and then opening it up into a broader review.
Joining us tonight for the roundtable is good friend and sponsor of the show, Director Brenic from Netflix 'n Swill! We've also got another returning guest in drunken legend Shampu of the Buds, Beers, and Brutality podcast. This week we're also thrilled to welcome two new guests to the show for the first time; we've got Carl from the How Have You Not Seen podcast joining us, and I am extremely excited to welcome someone whose show I've been a fan of for a long time in Tom Coe from Jake and Tom Conquer the World.
We open the floodgates to talk Wonder Woman, and it's no surprise when someone on the panel wasn't quite as happy with the film as everyone else. We dissect a lot of the themes in the film and talk what did or didn't work. It's a long discussion about the film, but we go so far in-depth with the film and it really ends up being one of the best review pieces we've ever done. Please enjoy this excellent review! Thank you for listening, and we'll see you at the movies!!

Friends of the Show
We'd like to give a huge shout-out for a lot of the shows we're proud to call friends, and that we're proud to call ourselves fans of. We especially have to thank our brothers in Perth, Paul & Wayne of The Countdown Movie & TV reviews, who have opened us up to a huge audience halfway across the world. Particular thanks to Paul who has been an amazing friend and has been infinitely helpful in terms of getting honest feedback on the evolution of the show. A huge thank you to Emily from The Story Behind podcast, whose support and friendship have kept this show alive through some of its darkest days. A huge thank you to some of our biggest podcasting friends, from Mr. X at the Angry Old Man, Shane from Now That I'm Older, David from The Unwritable Rant, Adam from Everyone Has a Podcast, Ro from the World of Ro, the entire crew at Afterburn 739, Mat at the One Word, Go! show, Justin from So I Married a Movie Geek, and Deana from the Twisted Philly podcast. We're probably forgetting someone, so thank you to ALL of you! We truly do love and appreciate your support.
We also have to give a huge shout out to #PodernFamily for helping to increase our exposure, and safe to say without it we wouldn't have met a lot of the podcasters and fans we're proud to call friends. We also want to give a huge shout out to the #MoviePodSquad, a group of movie podcasters in the #PodernFamily who have come together for our mutual love of film. Look for even more crossovers and fun events with these and other great podcasters soon!

Episode 100 - A Podcasting Journey
Thursday Jun 01, 2017
Thursday Jun 01, 2017
One hundred episodes.
This is a landmark that I don't think either of us ever realized we would or could get to with podcasting, but here we are... now in triple digits, one hundred episodes strong. We couldn't have done it without each and every single one of our amazing listeners out there, and you have our eternal gratitude and thanks.
One of the things that has marveled me, whenever I go back to listen to old episodes or pick out old bloopers for post-credits material, is just how much the Epic Film Guys podcast has evolved in that time. We started out on episode one with just me, Epic Film Guy Nick, talking into a phone. Hell, the original episodes were posted in a folder on Google Drive, we didn't get an actual host until around episode six. Over time, we slowly evolved... from cheap headset microphones in the late single-digits and early teens, to Justin buying me the Yeti, to Justin getting his own Yeti, then to the ATR-2100s, and now to where we have the mixer and soundboard and can do the livestreams.
In that spirit, I wanted episode 100 to be a celebration of where the Epic Film Guys have been, and hopefully, a look ahead to what awaits us as we continue to evolve. So I went through each and every episode of the podcast and cut out approximately one minute of audio and stitched it together into a tapestry that represents the evolution of a podcast. The evolution of the Epic Film Guys, where we started with the Reel Rundown podcast, to our rebranding and the podcast taking over as the primary entertainment content that we release.
I cut the "minutes" for the show from the episodes in sequence, so minute one is the first minute of episode one, minute two is the second minute of episode two, and so on. For the most part this wasn't an issue until a few of the higher episode numbers, where a shorter runtime forced me to cull through and just take a good minute of audio from somewhere within it. You'll hear the evolution of our audio, from some extremely rocky starts (which I tried my best to make presentable w/ my current sound production knowledge) to the very smooth and balanced sound we've worked hard to achieve. You'll hear promos, segment intro pieces, and a ton of the guests we've had the pleasure of welcoming onto the podcast over the last two years. I did my best to edit them together so they'd have something of a flow, and some breaks are less noticeable than others, but I think it does a great job of showcasing how the show has evolved, in terms of content presentation and quality.
So, please enjoy episode 100, and I cannot say it enough, but thank you to each and every single one of you out there who has ever plugged us into your ears. This one is for you; and as an extra-special bonus, this one's goin' up early.
